October is Islamic history month. When we look at Islamic history, we find a very rich tradition of learning, teaching, research and innovation from which the world still benefits today including algebra, coffee and even the modern university, just to name a few.
Pre-Islamic Arabia was a society drowning in ignorance and illiteracy. So what was the spark that lit this intellectual revolution? One word: “Read!” – the first word revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and the first word of the very first Quranic verse.
Alhamdulillah today, we – along with fellow members of the United Muslim Organizations of Ottawa-Gatineau – presented a $23,000 gift to underprivileged OCDSB schools. Half of the donation will go to Carson Grove Elementary School in Gloucester, which has recently taken in over 100 newcomers, increasing its student population by nearly 50 percent.
We hope this gift will help brighten the future of students by giving them resources and positive experiences that’ll shape them into confident, compassionate and engaged citizens and leaders in the years to come.
Thank you for your generous contributions. May Allah accept and may He he grant all children safe, compassionate and fulfilling childhoods.
